Natural Shampoo & Conditioner (2-in-1)

Natural Shampoo & Conditioner (2-in-1)

Ann-Marie tried different shampoo and conditioner recipe for over a year. Her goal was to find a simple recipe that would both clean her hair and hydrate it. This recipe is her favorite one so far and it’s super simple. She believes that no matter your type of hair, your hair routine can be simple.

This recipe contains only two ingredients, and it acts as shampoo and conditioner. It leaves the hair clean and soft. For extra softness, Ann-Marie sometimes do a very simple natural hair mask (see recipe) before the shower.

This shampoo/conditioner recipe works for all types of hair, but for the curious ones, here is the information about Ann-Marie's hair type: low porosity, dry, frizzy and curly 3A-C.

Low porosity hair has very tight cuticles meaning the hair doesn't absorb water easily. Your hair feels dry and it takes a long time to wet or dry it. People with dry hair, mostly have low porosity and they believe that they need extra conditioner to hydrate the hair. You don't! What you need is more water and find a way to keep the water inside the cuticles. That is why Ann-Marie finishes her hair routine with a natural gel.

Instructions

  1. Put the water and shikakai powder in the bottle.
  2. Shake the bottle until the powder is completely diluted.
  3. Let it sit for 30 minutes (I like to let it sit for a moment to make sure that the shikakai powder is completely diluted, but when I am in a hurry, I just shake the bottle for a good minute and take a shower).
  4. Pour half of the liquid at the root of your hair and the rest of the liquid in your hair. Be careful not to let the liquid go into your eyes.
  5. Let the recipe sit in your hair for 2 minutes.
  6. Massage your head in the meantime to properly clean the root of your hair.
  7. Rinse your hair under water until the shikakai powder is not in your hair anymore
